Beginning in Kunming, the 'City of Eternal Spring', this trip includes visits to two of China's most charming old towns on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau; Lijiang and Dali. Explore the cobblestone alleyways, bridges and courtyards of Lijiang and visit the majestic Jade Snow Mountain. Relax in Dali and explore the surrounding scenery.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1
UK

Fly from the UK to Shanghai.

Day 2
Shanghai

Arrive in Shanghai and transfer to your hotel. Stay at the first class period Ruijin Hotel for two nights. (Upgrade to the Four Seasons for a supplement.) The remainder of your day is at leisure to rest and refresh after your long flight.

Day 3
Kunming

Fly from Shanghai to Kunming in the morning. Met on arrival and transferred to the first class Green Lake hotel for a two-night stay. Later visit West Hill and Dragon Gate.

Day 4
Kunming

Enjoy a full day excursion to the UNESCO World Heritage Shilin Stone Forest, Kunming. The limestone karst formations of Stone Forest date back to 270 million years.

Day 5
Dali

Drive through the countryside to Dali this morning (4-5 hrs). Check in to the first class Regent Hotel for 2 nights. Rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 6
Dali

Start off the day with a boat ride on Erhai Lake. Afterwards visit Cang Shan mountain and take a cable car ride to the top.

Day 7
Lijiang

Morning drive to Lijiang (2-3 hrs). Stay at the first class boutique Zen Garden Hotel for 3 nights. (You could upgrade to the deluxe Banyan Tree for a supplement.) Take a guided tour of Lijiang today. Visit the Mu Family Mansion, Black Dragon Pool Park and any local markets open on the day.

Day 8
Lijiang

Take in the beautiful surroundings of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain with your guide, before enjoying an Impressions show. Set at the foot of the Jade Snow Mountain this incredible song and dance performance includes a cast of over 400 performers from 10 ethnic minorities and 100 horses. Return to Lijiang for the remainder of your day at leisure.

Day 9
Lijiang

This morning take a bicycle ride in the nearby town of Baisha. Afternoon is at leisure to explore the cobbled streets of downtown Lijiang.

Day 10
Qiatao, Zhongdian

Take an excursion to the spectacular Tiger Leaping Gorge at Qiatou. Continue on to Zhongdian and check in at the first class Songstam Hotel for 2 nights.

Day 11
Zhongdian

Enjoy sightseeing in this picturesque Tibetan town. Visit Bitahai and Shudu Lakes, followed by a visit to the Gedan Songzanlin Monastery.

Day 12
Hong Kong

Take a flight to Kunming today, changing planes for Hong Kong. You will be met on arrival and transferred to the first class Marco Polo Hotel for 2 nights.

Day 13
Hong Kong

The day is at leisure to explore the city on your own. (Sightseeing tours can be arranged at a supplement.)

Day 14
Hong Kong

Day is at leisure with checkout at 1200 noon. You will be transferred to the airport in the evening for your return flight to the UK.

Day 15
UK

Arrive in the UK in the morning.
