A vast and immensely varied land, China defies simple definition. It is a world of remarkable contrasts and a rich and endless diversity of spectacular scenery and ancient cultures that belie belief. Our seven-day introductory tour takes you to some of the most famous and awe-inspiring sights of China.

Explore Beijing at leisure with a walking tour of the hutongs, visit grand imperial palaces and explore the iconic Great Wall. In Xi'an, marvel at the famous Terracotta Warriors and experience a spectacularly colourful Tang Dynasty show. The tour ends in the city of the Giant Panda, Chengdu, offering the opportunity to get close to this endangered animal.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1

Beijing

On arrival, transfer to Howard Johson Paragon hotel or similar for three nights. Enjoy a Peking Duck welcome dinner in the evening. Optional excursion: Kung Fu show.

Day 2

Beijing

Start the day off at Tian An Men Square before spending a few hours exploring The Forbidden City with your guide. In the afternoon, drive out to see the Mutianyu section of The Great Wall of China, one of the most iconic sights in Asia.

Day 3

Beijing

Another day spent in Beijing to visit the Temple of Heaven in the morning when elderly locals gather to practise Tai Chi. Afternoon visit to see the pavilions, prayer halls and gardens of the Summer Palace ; built for the Emperors to escape the summer heat.

Day 4

Beijing, Xi'an

Take a morning Bullet train to Xi'an. Check-in at the Grand Dynasty Culture hotel or similar for the night. In the afternoon, visit the sights of Xi'an, including the Big Goose Pagoda, Mosque and Muslim Quarters. Enjoy a dumpling dinner banquet.

Day 5

Xi'an, Chengdu

This morning learn about the amazing Terracotta Warriors and Museum of Horses, later take a short flight to Chengdu. Stay at the Tianfu Sunshine hotel for two nights.

Day 6

Chengdu

Visit the Panda Breeding Centre in the morning, followed by a very special vegetarian lunch at the Wen Shu Temple. Later on, walk along the famous Jin Li Street and explore the city on your own. Optional excursion: Sichuan opera performance

Day 7

Chengdu

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
