The Earth Lodge is the latest venture by an outfit that’s been welcoming safari travellers to this far-flung corner of India for decades. They’re big on sustainability these days, using locally sourced materials and labour in the construction of their beautiful new resort, which is situated well away from the main tourist hub at Kahna, but close to the park gates and buffer zone. The architectural styles of neighbouring Gond villages inspired the design of its 16 bungalows.
Exposed stone, split-cane and earthy hues set the tone of the luxuriously air-conditioned interiors, which have lovely bathrooms and are decorated with tribal textiles and dokra metalwork. Everyone adores the infinity pool, set under leafy mahua trees beside a crazy-paving sun deck.
Meals, made from garden-fresh ingredients, are sociable affairs, served on a long wooden table in a stylish dining hall.
