Delhi to Jaipur: Hotels, Transfers & Expert Tips

Delhi and Jaipur are two of North India's most popular destinations and together form two corners of the famous Golden Triangle. Recently, our India travel specialist Brijesh travelled to both cities to attend industry events, inspect hotels and experience the latest transport options between them. From heritage hotels and luxury stays to practical advice on travelling between the two cities, here are his first-hand recommendations to help you plan your trip.

Best hotels in Delhi and Jaipur

Both Delhi and Jaipur offer a wide range of accommodation style from charming homestays to luxury 5-star hotels. Jaipur, especially, has a large number of heritage mansions and palatial homes dating back to few centuries that are now converted into lavish, boutique hotels.

The Imperial Hotel in Delhi is a favourite of TransIndus. This magnificent, period hotel dating back to early 20th century is situated at Connaught Place – the heart of Delhi. How would you compare the hotel experience in Delhi versus Jaipur?

Delhi, being the capital and one of the biggest commercial centres of the country, is busy round the year with leisure tourists, business travellers, conferences, delegations, event etc. Even though I was there in “low season”, the hotels were buzzing with guests.

Jaipur on the other hand is mainly a leisure destination and gateway to Rajasthan. Although it has grown as one of the major metropolitan cities of India, it still retains the relaxed vibe and traditional customs. 

How to travel from Delhi to Jaipur

Delhi and Jaipur are both big, metropolitan cities and well connected by road, rail and air. In my opinion, the best way to travel from Delhi to Jaipur is by road. The National Highway offers a smooth ride and cuts down driving time substantially, with a typical journey taking 4-5 hours. There are also trains between the two cities but they are either early in the morning or in the evening. In addition, there are several domestic flights between these cities with a flying time of just about an hour.

On this ocassion I travelled between Delhi and Jaipur by car and the road was excellent. The journey felt comfortable throughout, making it an enjoyable way to see the changing landscapes between the capital and Rajasthan.

Why combine Delhi and Jaipur in one itinerary?

Delhi and Jaipur are two most important tourist cities in the North India and are must-see for the first time visitors. Delhi and Jaipur are two cities from India’s famous ‘Golden Triangle’, with Agra (home to the Taj Mahal) being the third. They can be easily combined in an itinerary. How to combine Delhi and Jaipur into a wider India itinerary

As well as being must-see for first time visitors, Delhi and Jaipur are also popular to return to with seasoned Indian travellers as there are so many unique experiences to be had.
Delhi, being the major international airport in North India, is generally your point of arrival or departure. It appears on most itineraries to North India. Jaipur is a gateway to Rajasthan and can easily be added to any itinerary of Rajasthan. Moreover, Delhi and Jaipur have a very good flight connections to most parts of India and hence can easily be combined with any other region of India – from Varanasi in the north to Kerala in the south and everywhere in between.
