This journey traces a nation in gentle renewal, where belief, landscape, and resilience are deeply entwined. More than a decade after earthquakes and political change reshaped the country, Nepal’s quiet strength emerges through continuity, craftsmanship, and faith. In the Kathmandu Valley, restored stupas, palaces, and monasteries - rebuilt using ancestral Newari skills - stand as expressions of a civilisation that honours its heritage. To the west, the landscape softens towards Pokhara, where the presence of the Himalaya begins to unfold.

Beyond this, the route follows the Kali Gandaki corridor between Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, moving from fertile hills into the stark high desert of Mustang. In Upper Mustang, the former Forbidden Kingdom, the walled city of Lo Manthang shelters monasteries and frescoed halls that preserve Tibetan-influenced traditions. At Muktinath, Hindu and Buddhist devotion converge within an elemental setting, before the journey descends through contrasts of arid plateau and serene lakes. More than a passage through place, this is an exploration of Nepal’s evolving identity - shaped by rebuilding, remembrance, and renewal.

Remember, this trip can be personalised to suit your travel needs - we can tailor everything from hotel, travel type, duration and more.

Suggested itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Kathmandu | A Valley of Living Traditions

Arrive in Nepal’s ancient capital, where temple spires, prayer flags and everyday ritual introduce the Kathmandu Valley as a living sacred landscape shaped by centuries of belief and craftsmanship.

On arrival in Kathmandu, you are met and transferred to your hotel, set within the broad bowl of the Kathmandu Valley. The remainder of the day is deliberately unhurried, allowing time to recover from the journey and absorb the city’s distinctive rhythm. Incense drifts from neighbourhood shrines, prayer wheels turn beside busy streets, and daily life unfolds amid courtyards and temples that speak of an enduring civilisation. In the evening, dine at a well-known local restaurant in Thamel, the city’s most animated quarter, before a gentle walk through its narrow lanes offers a first glimpse of contemporary Kathmandu layered over its ancient foundations.

Late morning, travel to Bhaktapur, one of Nepal’s most complete medieval cities. Following a short cultural presentation and lunch, explore its atmospheric squares — Durbar, Pottery and Dattatraya — where artisans continue age-old crafts in narrow brick-lined streets. Bhaktapur’s careful restoration stands as a testament to community-led preservation and cultural resilience. Return to Kathmandu in the early evening for dinner before retiring to your hotel.

After lunch, ascend to Swayambhunath, the Monkey Temple, where Buddhist and Hindu symbolism coexist above the city.
