The Trident’s a large, purpose-built hotel on the peaceful northern outskirts of Bhubaneshwar. Set in 14 acres of gardens and fruit orchards, it’s double-storeyed blocks are ranged around a square pool and sun terrace spread under coconut palms.

On the other side, the rooms – which are as smart and spacious as you’d expect of a five-star – overlook leafy grounds. The restaurant serves great multi-cuisine buffets, with full-sized reproductions of the Konark temple’s chariot wheels as a backdrop.

There’s a well equipped fitness centre and plenty of winding paths outside that are perfect for an early-morning jog. However, the highest praise here is generally reserved for the staff, who are outstandingly helpful.
