The Gumbaz at Srirangapatna is a mausoleum built by Tipu Sultan for his father Hyder Ali, and his mother Fakhr-Un-Nisa but has ended up serving as his tomb. On finding the body of Tipu among the fallen in the final battle of four battles for control of Srirangapattna, the island Fortress on an island in the River Kaveri, the British General Sir David Baird quickly buried the great Sultan Tipu between his parents' graves, fearing a revolt from Tipu’s troops if any sign of disrespect were shown to his remains.
Today it serves as a pilgrimage site for Islamic faith followers as much as military historians.
