The smallest of the Yangtze cruisers, with only 62 exclusive cabins and suites (the most spacious on the river), this is the crème de la crème of Yangtze cruisers, and our number one choice. All of the accommodation benefits from private balconies and gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows yielding expansive views. An unrivalled staff-to-passenger ratio of 1:1 ensures highly personalised service at all times.
International-grade, five-star facilities on board include à la carte dining, an indulgent spa, fitness centre, theatre and high observation deck. Passengers may also benefit from a range of on-board activities, including Tai-Chi, Chinese cookery classes and lessons in traditional Mandarin calligraphy. Another real plus with the Sanctuary is that it visits less crowded sites than its competitors, and uses only the most knowledgeable guides.

This evening, board the Sanctuary Yangtzi Explorer for your cruise to Yichang. After settling into your cabin, the ship will set sail on its downstream course through the Three Gorges region. The total length of this cruise is 660 kilometres (402 miles) and is considered by most Chinese to represent the single most scenic area in all of China.
Start your morning with traditional Chinese exercise and work up an appetite for the buffet breakfast. Afterwards, there will be a shore excursion to Fengdu where you can visit the Relocated Village, local Kindergarten or local market. Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea on board, and choose from a range of activities including Chinese reflexology, Chinese painting and calligraphy. The evening will begin with the Captain's reception, followed by an a la carte dinner and crew variety show.
Early this morning the Sanctuary Yangtzi Explorer will enter Qutang Gorge. After breakfast, enter the Wu Gorge and then cruise the Shennong Stream. Disembark from the ship at Badong and board a ferry to a local longboat (sampan) poled by Tujia boatmen. After lunch, view the Xiling Gorge and later enjoy an artisan demonstration followed by a lecture about China.
After breakfast, you will arrive at the Three Gorges Project Dam Site and Exhibition Centre. The project was started in 1992, partially completed in 2009 and is due to be finished in 2015. The dam spans 1.2 miles in width and 600 feet in height, and is the largest and most expensive engineering project in the world. The dam's 32 generators will generate enough clean energy to reduce China's reliance on coal. However the project has also caused much controversy, due to submerging 13 cities, 140 towns, 1,352 villages, over 600 industrial factories and more than 1,200 archaeological projects, as well as resettling 1.2 million people as a result of the flooding. Disembark the Sanctuary Yangtze Explorer at around midday for you onward journey.
