In addition to our tailor-made holidays, TransIndus runs a programme of group tours to Iran. Focusing mainly on the country’s great cultural and historic landmarks, the trips start in the capital, Tehran. From there, we head south to Shiraz, then overland via Persepolis and nearby tombs of the Achemaenid kings to the spectacular desert oasis of Yazd. Isfahan is next up and, for most, the highlight of the tour. In addition to the big sights, our itinerary also takes in some small market towns and rural villages. None of the journeys are excessively long, and the scenery slipping past the window – ranging from huge, snow-capped peaks to deserts and verdant pistachio fields – is unremittingly beautiful.
