Suggested itinerary

Day 1
Hakata, Yufuin, Overnight on train

After a welcome ceremony the train departs in the morning from Hakata station for Yufuin. Here passengers will have time to walk around this popular tourist town, famous for Mount Yufuin, Lake Kinrinko, its many hot springs and beautiful rural scenery. In the evening a special dinner is served on the train while you take in the view. Overnight is on board the train.

Day 2
Miyazaki, Hayato, Ryokan

Breakfast is served on board as the train heads towards Hayato. There is the option of a Miyazaki city tour this morning, visiting Miyazaki Shrine and other sights (then re-board at Miyakonojyo station). The shrine is dedicated to the Emperor Jinmu, who is said to be Japan’s first emperor. From Hayato station passengers board the Seven Stars bus and head to their chosen accommodation for the evening. Tonight will be spent at a ryokan where you can sample local cuisine and bathe in a soothing hot spring.

Day 3
Hayato, Kagoshima-Chuo, Overnight on train

After breakfast at your ryokan there’s time to take a relaxing stroll at the beautiful Tenku No Mori private resort. Here you’ll have the chance to plant a memorial tree and enjoy a specially prepared lunch. In the afternoon the train heads for Kagoshima-Chuo station where you can explore the Sengan-en gardens, which was once the residence of the Shimazu clan who ruled the Satsuma domain (present day Kagoshima). Alternatively, you can experience Satsuma ware painting at the Chin Jukan Kiln, then on to a tea ceremony at a teahouse that is only opened to the public once a year. Overnight is on board the train.

Day 4
Aso, Hakata

This morning breakfast is served in a special room at Aso station where you can take in the scenic views of Kumamoto and Aso. The train then heads for Oita. A lunch of local cuisine from the Oita region is served on board. The journey ends with a farewell event before arriving at the final destination, Hakata station.
