The Trident’s a medium-sized, modern five-star on the northern outskirts of the city. It’s more peaceful out here than closer to the centre, making the hotel a perfect retreat after sightseeing at nearby Amber or shopping in Jaipur’s bazaars.

There’s a lovely heated pool in the grounds with sun loungers to sprawl on, and a choice of restaurants and coffee shops. The rooms themselves, overlooking Mansagar Lake and the Aravalli Hills, are clean and functional rather than opulent – Rajput flourishes are kept to a minimum in favour of simplicity and efficiency.
