Pench National Park, North & Central India, India
A luxury jungle lodge with a twist. At Baghvan the huts are the size of houses and hold a few neat surprises: open-air showers; secluded pebble gardens; and, best of all, first-floor viewing platforms where you can curl up with a loved one under the stars (protected by a mosquito net, of course). Styled in copper and pale turquoise, the spacious, open-sided suites are beautifully furnished, with painting and art objects that wouldn’t look out of place in a museum.
A dedicated butler is at your beck and call, and will advise on the best dishes to choose for supper, and where to enjoy them – the nicest location is the poolside, overlooking a dry gulley which tigers sometimes use as a corridor. And the park gates are only five minutes away.
