The summer palace of Tipu Sultan, the Daria Daulat Bagh, sits on the outskirts of Srirangapattna Fort on an island in the river Kaveri, a little south of Mysore. Unlike other places of the time, this is a low-lying, wooden, collonaded building built entirely of teak sid amid beautiful shaded gardens. Its building was personally overseen by Sultan himself in 1784 and served as his office and as a summer retreat. Each wall of the palace is covered in historic murals depicting the victory of Haidar Ali (Tipu's father) over the British at Pollilur in 1780.
