With its blue water and vast, white sand beach, Ngwe Saung is the pearl among the coastal resorts due west of Yangon and the Ayeyarwady Delta. Having been set back by cyclone Nargis in 2008, development has lagged behind that of Ngapali, further north, but some find the atmosphere all the more charming as a consequence. Most of the clientele on weekends are well-heeled Yangoites, but during the week, much of the sweeping beach remains blissfully empty.
