Sitting on the slopes of Mount Carmel overlooking the Mediterranean, Haifa is Israel’s third largest city. One of the worlds shortest subways, and Israel’s only subway system, the Carmelit, is a wonderful way to see the city, climbing 900 feet up the mountain, with magnificent views from the top. The city’s crown jewel is the Baha’i Gardens, part of the Baha’i World Centre and a place of pilgrimage for those in the Baha’i faith. At the bottom of the gardens, you will find Haifa’s German colony, famous for its pretty streets and restored templar-era buildings.
