A typical rural market town surrounded by miles of boulder-strewn plains and bare granite hills, Deogarh is a great place to pause on the journey between Jodhpur and Udaipur in order to experience everyday life in the Rajasthani countryside.

Our preferred base is the wonderful ‘Dev Shree’, which sits in landscaped gardens on the shores of a lake. Rather grander than a homestay but more welcoming than a large heritage hotel, the property is owned by a couple of old friends of TransIndus, Shratrunjay Singh and Bhavna Kumari, whose hospitality makes a stay here very special. From trips to local teashops, cave temples and leopard’s lairs to rides on rattly old passenger trains, chapati-making classes, birding walks and sundowners at fabulous hilltop viewpoints, the experiences, cuisine and conversation will rank among the most memorable of your trip.
