A rare survivor from the branch of the old Silk Route formerly connecting Kashgar in Xinjiang with Leh is a herd of twin-humped Bactrian camels. Their ancestors originated in Gobi and Taklamakan Deserts, but these live in a tract of dunes just outside Hundar village in the Nubra Valley, grazing on seabuckthorn and taking tourist out on rides in the summer months – a great Instagram opportunity!
